Bonus PCB calculator 2026
A RM5,000 bonus on a RM5,000 salary, paid in December, takes RM400 of PCB and RM550 of EPF for a single person in 2026, leaving RM4,050. LHDN works out the year’s tax with the bonus and without it; the difference is the bonus PCB.

LHDN’s steps for December
The months before are worked at this salary from January, with a twelfth of your TP1 reliefs and your zakat in each. PCB on the bonus is Step 5 less the month’s PCB without it: RM510.00 − RM110.00.
| Step | Figure |
|---|---|
| Step 1[B]Chargeable income for the year without the bonus (P) | RM47,000.00 |
| RM51,000.00 + (RM5,000.00 − RM0.00) − RM9,000.00 = RM47,000.00. | |
| Step 1[C]This month’s PCB on the salary | RM110.00 |
| [(RM47,000.00 − RM35,000) × 6% + RM600 − (RM0.00 + RM1,210.00)] ÷ 1 = RM110.00. | |
| Step 1[D]Less this month’s zakat | RM110.00 |
| RM110.00 − RM0.00 = RM110.00. | |
| Step 1[E]PCB for the year without the bonus | RM1,320.00 |
| RM1,210.00 paid so far + RM110.00 × 1 = RM1,320.00. | |
| Step 2Chargeable income for the year with the bonus (P) | RM52,000.00 |
| RM51,000.00 + (RM5,000.00 − RM0.00) + (RM5,000.00 − RM0.00) − RM9,000.00 = RM52,000.00. | |
| Step 3Tax for the year with the bonus | RM1,720.00 |
| (RM52,000.00 − RM50,000) × 11% + RM1,500 = RM1,720.00. | |
| Step 4PCB on the bonus | RM400.00 |
| RM1,720.00 − (RM1,320.00 + RM0.00) = RM400.00. | |
| Step 5PCB for the month | RM510.00 |
| RM110.00 + RM400.00 = RM510.00, rounded up to the next 5 sen: RM510.00. | |
How PCB on a bonus is worked out
A bonus isn’t taxed as if you were paid it every month. LHDN’s method for additional remuneration works out your tax for the year twice, without the bonus and with it, and takes the difference in the month the bonus is paid:
- Step 1. The month’s PCB on your salary, as in any month ([C]); less this month’s zakat ([D]); and the PCB for the year without the bonus, which is the PCB paid so far plus [C] for each month left, this one included ([E]).
- Step 2. Your chargeable income for the year with the bonus, less its EPF.
- Step 3. The tax on that from LHDN’s table.
- Step 4. PCB on the bonus: Step 3 less Step 1[E] and any zakat already paid this year. Under RM10, nothing.
- Step 5. The month’s PCB: Step 1[D] plus Step 4, rounded up to the next 5 sen.
PCB on the month’s pay = [(P − M) × R + B − (Z + X)] ÷ (n + 1)
P is your chargeable income for the year: pay so far after EPF, plus this month’s, plus this month’s salary for each of the n months left, less your reliefs. Step 2 adds the bonus less its EPF. Z and X are the zakat and PCB paid so far this year. Only RM4,000 of EPF a year counts, so K2, the EPF counted for each month left, can drop once the bonus’s EPF is in. The PCB guide goes through the formula for a normal month.
LHDN’s April example
LHDN’s 2026 specification works through an employee on RM5,500 a month with RM605 EPF, married to a working spouse, with three children, who claims RM300 of reliefs on Form TP1 in March and again in April. In April a RM8,250 bonus is paid, with RM908 EPF. January to March are ordinary months, with PCB of RM110.00, RM110.00 and RM108.20: RM328.20 paid by April (X). The calculator reproduces each of April’s steps to the sen:
| Step | Figure |
|---|---|
| Step 1[B]Chargeable income for the year without the bonus (P) | RM46,400.00 |
| RM14,685.00 + (RM5,500.00 − RM605.00) + (RM5,500.00 − RM197.50) × 8 − RM15,600.00 = RM46,400.00. | |
| Step 1[C]This month’s PCB on the salary | RM106.20 |
| [(RM46,400.00 − RM35,000) × 6% + RM600 − (RM0.00 + RM328.20)] ÷ 9 = RM106.20. | |
| Step 1[D]Less this month’s zakat | RM106.20 |
| RM106.20 − RM0.00 = RM106.20. | |
| Step 1[E]PCB for the year without the bonus | RM1,284.00 |
| RM328.20 paid so far + RM106.20 × 9 = RM1,284.00. | |
| Step 2Chargeable income for the year with the bonus (P) | RM54,650.00 |
| RM14,685.00 + (RM5,500.00 − RM605.00) + (RM5,500.00 − RM84.00) × 8 + (RM8,250.00 − RM908.00) − RM15,600.00 = RM54,650.00. The bonus’s EPF leaves less of the RM4,000 EPF relief for the months left, so K2 drops to RM84.00. | |
| Step 3Tax for the year with the bonus | RM2,011.50 |
| (RM54,650.00 − RM50,000) × 11% + RM1,500 = RM2,011.50. | |
| Step 4PCB on the bonus | RM727.50 |
| RM2,011.50 − (RM1,284.00 + RM0.00) = RM727.50. | |
| Step 5PCB for the month | RM833.70 |
| RM106.20 + RM727.50 = RM833.70, rounded up to the next 5 sen: RM833.70. | |
April’s PCB is RM833.70: RM106.20 on the salary, as in a month without a bonus, and RM727.50 on the bonus.
LHDN’s example gives the bonus’s EPF as RM908, 11% of RM8,250 rounded up. KWSP takes EPF on the month’s whole pay: on RM13,750 the Third Schedule gives RM1,518, which is RM913 more than on the salary alone. The calculator above takes the EPF on a bonus that way, and spreads TP1 reliefs evenly over the year, so it won’t match this example to the sen.
PCB on a bonus by salary, 2026
| Salary | PCB on 1 month’s bonus | Left after EPF and PCB | PCB on 2 months’ bonus | Left after EPF and PCB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RM3,000 | RM0 | RM2,670 | RM20 | RM5,320 |
| RM4,000 | RM511.50 | RM3,048.50 | RM751.50 | RM6,368.50 |
| RM5,000 | RM400 | RM4,050 | RM950 | RM7,950 |
| RM6,000 | RM660 | RM4,680 | RM1,400 | RM9,280 |
| RM8,000 | RM1,520 | RM5,600 | RM3,040 | RM11,200 |
| RM10,000 | RM2,500 | RM6,400 | RM5,000 | RM12,800 |
| RM15,000 | RM3,750 | RM9,600 | RM7,500 | RM19,200 |
Each ringgit of a bonus is taxed at the rate your income for the year has reached: on RM10,000 a month, PCB takes 25% of a one-month bonus. Watch the RM35,000 line: up to that much chargeable income, a RM400 rebate comes off the year’s tax, and a bonus that takes you over the line loses the rebate too. That’s why a one-month bonus on RM4,000 takes RM511.50. For PCB in the months without a bonus, use the PCB calculator.

Questions
Why is so much PCB taken from my bonus?
The bonus sits on top of your salary in the tax table, so it’s taxed at the highest rates your income for the year reaches, and the year’s extra tax comes off in the one month. On RM5,000 a month, single, PCB takes 2.2% of the salary but 8% of a RM5,000 bonus. Your tax for the year is the same whichever month the bonus comes in; PCB just collects it at once.
Does EPF come off a bonus?
Yes. KWSP counts a bonus as wages, so EPF is taken from the Third Schedule on the month’s salary and bonus together. On RM5,000 plus a RM5,000 bonus that’s RM1,100 instead of RM550: RM550 from the bonus. Your employer adds its share on top.
Will I get the bonus PCB back?
Only if the PCB for the whole year comes to more than your tax: for example, if you have reliefs you didn’t claim through your employer on Form TP1. Filing your Form BE then gets the difference back. Otherwise the bonus PCB is your tax on the bonus.
What counts as a bonus for PCB?
Anything paid on top of the month’s normal pay: bonuses and incentives, arrears, commission or allowances not paid monthly, a director’s fee not paid monthly, gratuity, compensation for loss of employment, ex-gratia payments and tax your employer pays for you. LHDN works out PCB on all of them with the same additional remuneration method.
