How the bands work

Up to RM20,000 a month, contributions come from KWSP’s Third Schedule rather than the exact percentage. Wages go into a band, RM20 wide up to RM5,000 and RM100 wide above, and each share is the rate times the top of the band, rounded up to the ringgit. Above RM20,000 it’s the exact percentage, rounded up.

RM2,390.00RM264RM312
RM2,400.00RM264RM312
RM4,990.00RM550RM650
RM5,000.50RM561RM612
RM25,000.00RM2,750RM3,000

RM2,390 and RM2,400 sit in the same band, so they pay the same. One sen over RM5,000 the employer’s rate drops from 13% to 12%, so the employer pays less on RM5,000.50 than on RM5,000.

EPF and your tax

Up to RM4,000 of your own EPF a year is tax relief, and PCB allows for it automatically. At 11%, anyone earning more than about RM3,020 a month reaches the cap.

Questions

When does my employer have to pay EPF?

By the 15th of the following month: January’s salary contributions are due by 15 February.

What EPF do foreign workers pay?

Since the October 2025 wages, non-citizens who joined EPF from 1 August 1998 contribute 2% and their employer 2% (Part F of the Third Schedule). The calculator doesn’t cover foreign workers yet.

Is EPF charged on a bonus?

Yes, bonuses are wages for EPF. If your salary is RM5,000 or less but a bonus takes the month over, your employer still pays 13% on that month’s wages.
